Pinus Mugo , more commonly known as Mugo Pine, is small to a medium-sized evergreen tree that is native to the mountains of Spain east of the Balkan Peninsula. As a mature tree, it typically reaches a height of 15’-20’ and a width of 20’-30’, though some cultivars can differ in size and color from the species. It is a dense tree, with stiff, thick, dark green needles that are 1”-3” long, and 2.5” brown seed cones. Mugo Pine prefers full sun to partial shade and deep, moist, loamy soil that is well-draining. It is hardy to USDA zones 2 to 8.
